Description:
Health systems need quality improvement (QI) initiatives that simultaneously improve patient outcomes, increase care capacity within a strained system, and promote environmentally sustainable healthcare practices. In this masterclass, we will introduce the concept of the “Triple Bottom Line”; a business management framework increasingly applied to wholistically evaluate healthcare QI interventions. Participants will learn to capture relevant patient outcomes, fiscal efficiencies, and environmental benefits of past and future interventions using case examples. Participants will leave with the foundation needed to begin applying the Triple Bottom Line during planning and execution of their individual QI projects.
Objectives:
- Introduce the Triple Bottom Line as a strategy to capture patient, financial, and environmental benefits of QI programs
- Demonstrate and discuss application of the Triple Bottom Line with de-implementation and Choosing Wisely case examples
- Learn to integrate the Triple Bottom Line into various stages of a QI framework
