Session Description:
This presentation will address the following learning objectives:
- To highlight the PiPER toolkit as a resource for planning patient engagement in QI using research project examples.
- To describe how an intersectoral lens can be used to guide your QI project conception, implementation, and dissemination.
- To share the HEIA framework and methods and discuss opportunities for Clinicians and Leaders in Quality and Innovation to lead in the patient engagement space.
Speaker Biography:
Cathy Craven, BA, MD, FRCPC. MSc, FASIA, FCAHS
Dr. Craven is the University of Toronto/University Health Network, Cope Family Chair in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Rehabilitation Health Systems Innovations, Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Program, Executive Lead of the Pride in Patient Engagement in Research portfolio at University Health Network, and Senior Scientist/Neural Engineering and Therapeutics Team Leader at KITE Research Institute, at University Health Network, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Craven is a Professor and Clinician Scientist in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. Her clinical and research expertise is in health services and systems, and the medical rehabilitation of sublesional osteoporosis to avoid fractures www.scigfragments.com. Dr. Craven is the Quality Leader of the SCI Implementation and Evaluation Quality Care Consortium www.sciconsortium.ca.
Dr. Craven has been the recipient of the SCI Ontario Community Builder of the Year Award (2022), fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2021) and American Spinal Injury Association (2019), UofT Division of PM&R Mentor of the Year (2019). ISCD Clinician of the year (2018) and the Canadian Association of PM&R Award of Merit (2017).
Dr Craven’s publication record includes 260+ peer-reviewed articles, 14 podcasts, 11 online resources, 3 consensus papers, 2 SCI guidelines, and 1 atlas. My work has earned an h-index of 55 with over 11,218 citations, having secured $33.7M in PI research funding.
